Providence College is located in Providence, Rhode Island, and was founded in 1917 by the Dominican Order as a private Catholic university. The campus spans approximately 105 acres. It comprises four colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business, the School of Professional Studies, and the School of Continuing Education. The college offers 47 undergraduate and 17 graduate programs. All undergraduates are required to complete a general education curriculum centered on the theme of “the development of Western civilization.” The student-to-faculty ratio is approximately 12:1, with small class sizes fostering close relationships between students and faculty. As a member of the NCAA Division I, the college's athletic teams, the “Friars,” primarily compete in the Big East Conference and the Hockey East League.
