Soka University of America, SUA for short, is a private liberal arts college located in Aliso Viejo, California. It was founded in 1987 and moved to its current location in 2001. The school covers an area of 103 acres, adjacent to the Aliso and Wood Canyon Wilderness Parks, and only 3 miles from the Pacific Coast. The environment is beautiful. SUA offers a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree with five majors: Environmental Studies, Humanities, International Studies, Life Sciences, and Social and Behavioral Sciences. In addition, the school also has a master's program in educational leadership and social change. SUA focuses on small class teaching, with a teacher-student ratio of 8:1 and an average class size of 12. All undergraduates must learn a non-native language and study abroad for a semester in their junior year, and the cost is included in tuition. The school adheres to the educational philosophy of "Soka" (meaning "creating value"), emphasizes peace, human rights and humanistic care, and is committed to cultivating leaders with a global vision and social responsibility.
